Finis :)

Every year I promise myself that I will paint the apple blossoms when they bloom.  Life usually gets busy and my chance is lost.  This year I finally managed to paint this lovely tree that grows in an old orchard near my home. :)

Finally got a scan done of the complete image :)

Sunflower in process

This flower has been in my demonstration pad for over 5 years.  I use this drawing to demonstrate how to use the compliment to add shadows to the yellow petals without dulling the lovely yellows.  This is done in color pencil…the compliment is a soft lavender and some terra cotta helps to darken the yellows.

Peonies revisited

I have many unfinished pieces from years of demonstrating techniques to students.  This summer I have promised myself that I would finish some of this pieces. So I'll begin with a pair of peony buds that I did in watercolor in 2002 or 2003.  Time to finally add the graphite....a favorite way of mine to work.  The combination of graphite and watercolor seems to be somewhere between finish and process, I love the way the two mediums compliment each other.

Apple blossom is finally finished =)

This is the first large watercolor I've done in a while.  I learned a lot from the piece and now feel relaxed with watercolor once again =)  The scan is horrible...I will post a better one soon...hate scanners :(

Back from the farm :)

It was a blessed day.  The skies were pure blue, the sun was bright, humidity low, with a small breeze.  My friend made us very welcomed with a pitcher of ice tea with mint from the garden, chairs and table under the shade tree....it was all completely perfect.  Keep a lookout among the sketches for the amazing teapot tree ;)

There were dragonflies, butterflies, a nest of chatty wrens and sunflowers were full of goldfinches filling their bellies with seeds ripe for the picking.

It was a beautiful day that will always be remembered fondly :)  Thank you Linsay!

Go to my Flickr page for more photos :)  blogger is glitchy :(
